… I Believe
I believe that our lives are ultimately meaningful. My conviction about the ground of our being, and about what Edward Schillebeeckx has called ” … the disclosure of the nature of true, good and really happy men and women – as ultimately the supreme possibility of human life … ” is firmly rooted in the Sacred Scriptures, and a succinct summary of those truths is expressed in the Creed of Nicaea:

In the beginning was the Word: the Word was with God and the Word was God … The Word became flesh, he lived among us, and we saw his glory, the glory that he has from the Father as the only Son of the Father, full of grace and truth. … Indeed, from his fullness we have, all of us, received – grace upon grace … [The Gospel of John 1:1,14,16]
In him, in bodily form, lives divinity in all its fullness, and in him you too find your own fulfilment … [The Letter of Paul to the Church at Colossae 2:9-10]

You have heard how it was said, You will love your neighbour and hate your enemy. But I say this to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you; so that you may be children of your Father in heaven, for he causes his sun to rise on the bad as well as the good, and sends down rain to fall on the upright and the wicked alike. [The Gospel according to Mathew 5:43-45]
